Book CoverThe Chessman
Jeffrey B. Burton
May 2012, 351 pages
MacAdam/Cage Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-59692-370-6

For a roller coaster ride of political intrigue and suspense, THE CHESSMAN is the book for you. Just when you think you have it — twists then turns...expertly done to keep you on the edge of your seat. A journey worth taking. Buckle up, for the gripping, solid, bumpy ride! Excellent.

When former FBI agent Cady is summoned to FBI headquarters he knows some serious is up just not what. He is informed of a murder the night before — that of SEC Commissioner C. Kenneth Gottlieb. He had been murdered by a single shot through the middle of his forehead. A chess piece was inserted into the wound — a clear glass queen.

Three years earlier, the chessman was responsible for seriously injuring Cady. He was dead or was he? No, he had to be dead. He was dead.

Cady is asked to join the new case as a consultant due to his intimate knowledge of the Chessman to prove this new one is a copycat. And if is not a copycat but the real one why is he back? Why risk it all when he would have gotten away with it?

As the killing continues with more chess pieces are placed until one upsets the Chessman. He maintains that it is not his kill. And in denying it he once again hurts Cady. So now there is indeed a copycat and the Chessman. What is going on? Who can be trusted? Who is the Chessman? Who is the copycat and why?

Jeffrey Burton has written a nonstop thrill ride that you won’t want to put down. The action starts on page one and does not stop! I read in pictures and can see this as a thrilling movie with great action sequences and exciting suspense moments — I would be first in line to watch it! Excellent! Well worth the read!

On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5.
