Popped CoverA PROMISE TO KEEP
Ann Durand
Double Dragon Publishing, February 2005 (e-book), $5.99, 190pgs
ISBN: 1-55404-215-1

Karen Hudson is in love with single dad, Michael Browning. All of her dreams have been answered by this man and his adorable child. But Michael has a secret. One night he tries to tell her but all he can manage is to extract a promise from her that she will remember him. The next day he and his child and all of Karen's happiness are gone. All that remains are a pair of cops looking for a murderer. But Karen never gives up on Michael.

The story twists and turns through the canyons of Mexico and the hills of Southern California. The author knows her terrain well. Other characters show up as the story backtracks to explain what happened. Then it zooms off again to check on characters in the present. I found myself a bit dizzy from it all.

There were spelling and grammar errors that could have been easily avoided, but the fast pace of the story pulled me along relentlessly. And the obvious research the author did paid off. I might not buy her next book, but I would certainly check it out at the library.
