DEADLY WILL CoverDEADLY WILL
A Deadly Past Mystery
By Marion Moore Hill
Pemberley Press, April 2006
ISBN 0-9771913-1-1
250 pages, $17.95

In 1789 Nathan Henry set up a will similar to the will his idol, Benjamin Franklin, arranged. The will would be read over 200 years later by his living descendants. Millie Kirchner and her son are two of the 16 living heirs contacted in 2001. The heirs are invited on a historic trip to Philadelphia to meet relatives they didn't know they had and find out what they inherited. Millie, a single mom on a very limited budget, finds out she and her son will inherit $1,000,000 plus have a chance to win an antique from the 1700s.

The will states that the relatives must participate in a week of historical tours, history lessons and the inheritance raffle. Each person has a chance to draw a number relating to each of the valuable antiques in addition to an equal portion of the money. Soon after drawing for the antiques relatives start dying. As each person dies, the inheritance goes up and more antiques are up for grabs. Millie decides to solve the murders herself as more and more relatives come to a horrible end.

Marion Moore Hill creates a captivating mystery set in Philadelphia with an intelligent amateur sleuth. Millie is down to earth, easy to relate to and has a big heart. Historical details are a major part of this story about greed, murder and betrayal. The heirs range from obnoxious to naive to disarmingly attractive. Not knowing who to trust, Millie must fight her attraction to one of the male heirs and keep her guard up with everyone. You won't be able to guess who the murderer is until the very end. This is the start of a fascinating new series I'm going to keep reading.
