Inside the Insane CoverFOR BETTER OR HEARSE
An Annabelle Archer Mystery
By Laura Durham
Avon Books, March 2006, ISBN: 0060739045,
272 pages, $6.99

Annabelle Archer is a wedding planner in Washington D.C. who is ready for anything. That is until Chef Henri, a notoriously despised chef, is found dead on an ice sculpture minutes before a reception is to begin. An anonymous caller informs the police that Chef Henri chased Annabelle out of the kitchen with a knife and Annabelle is the killer. Despite the call Detective Reese's suspicion quickly moves to Georgia, the Fairmont catering executive and Annabelle's good friend.

When Georgia is thrown in jail for the murder Annabelle and her always humorous entourage set out to clear Georgia's name. Between arranging weddings with difficult brides, dealing with her eccentric neighbor, a sexy musician, disappearing evidence and mysterious "accidents," Annabelle questions the suspects who just happened to be everyone who knew Henri. It becomes obvious that the killer will do anything to avoid being caught when more chefs end up dead. Annabelle knows she must hurry before she's next.

Laura Durham's FOR BETTER OR HEARSE is the second book in the Annabelle Archer mystery series. It's a great cozy murder mystery with plenty of humor that will keep you entertained until the last page. Every time I thought I knew who did it I was proved wrong. Regardless of the cozy nature of this mystery it will keep you guessing until the end. There are hints of a possible romance for Annabelle between the tattooed and extremely sexy rocker Ian and the determined Detective Reese, but you'll have to keep reading to find out if anything develops. This is a great book to sit back in your favorite chair and laugh at the antics of this fun group of amateur sleuths. I would definitely recommend this wonderful mystery.
