The man on the phone said there was a briefcase with a million dollars waiting to be picked up, but he wasn’t talking to Nathan. Or was he?

GOOD WITH DIRECTIONS

Scanning the private parking garage beneath his Fifth Avenue apartment building, Nathan McHenry confirmed that it was clear of any suspicious-looking individuals before unbuckling his four-year-old son from the booster seat. Being a bank vice president, Nathan was cautious by nature, but the venture he had undertaken in the last few years made him doubly so. As long as his people continued to follow directions, though, there was no reason they couldn’t keep their operation running indefinitely. Nathan just had to remain vigilant.

Nathan swung his son up onto his shoulders, grinning when Nate Jr. put his arms out to the side and began making airplane noises.

Nathan lowered his voice to a deep bass and said, “Captain, you’re cleared for take-off.”

The boy counted down, “Five, foe, fee, two, one..."
