Time for the annual fire to fly contest again. Are you ready? This year's winner will receive the usual cash, PLUS be published in DIME II. DIME is the hottest anthology around. Get your copy of DIME I and you'll see why you want your story in DIME!

Starting April 1st, 2004, FMAM -- Futures Mysterious Anthology Magazine -- is pleased to bring you our 7th Annual FIRE TO FLY SHORT STORY CONTEST FOR 2004. The stakes are high! topics varied. And we've got lots of chances for you to win! Starting with a round of semi-finalists and then finalists BEFORE we get to the tip, top winners. All finalists will receive one free copy of FMAM – a $12 value including USA shipping.

PRIZES:

1st prize: $200, AND YOUR STORY WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE ANTHOLOGY DIME II. (PAPERBACK AND AUDIO)!

2nd prize: $75, plus publication in FAME, and a 1-year subscription to FMAM!

3rd prize: $50, plus publication in FAME, and a 1-year subscription!

4th thru 8th prizes: Honorable Mention PLUS your story will be published in FAME!

ALL winners will receive an original art award certificate created by Pete Welling. Your story will be read by the best. We have top notch authors and publishers who judge our contests.

RULES:

Enter by following these 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Enter your short mystery of 7000 words or less using one of the following categories:

Forensic, CSI CRIME
Holidays are Criminal
Historical Crime (or hysterical, HAHAHA)
Crimes mixed with Horror
Crimes of the Spirit (ghosts, supernatural, etc.)
Crimes that involve the world of TECHNO, i.e., internet, cellphone, if I can't follow the directions it's tech. J and I can barely operate the microwave.

Step 2: Send your check (payable to Futures Magazine) in the amount of $15 per story to:

FUTURES, 3039 38th Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55406.

Enter as many as you like. NO LIMIT! Or pay online through paypal if you prefer! Be sure to make note of your PayPal payment reference number.

NOTE: You MAY enter reprints.

Step 3: Paste your entry in an email to EarlStag@juno.com by the DEADLINE of Sept 30, 2004. Put “Fire to Fly 2004” in the subject heading. In the body of your email (no attachments, please) include your story, title, your name, address, phone number, email, word count, and short bio. At the end please include the words THE END. FMAM 'Fire to Fly' SHORT STORY Contest for 2003 WINNERS


FMAM is proud to say that after 7 years the ‘fire to fly’ Contest has taken off and it IS flying! The stories we saw in 2003 were fabulous, and many! Because of this I am going to have many more Honorable Mention winners (and they will get prizes!) than we’d anticipated. I wish I could reward every one of you! NOTICE: FMAM's annual shutdowns for new submissions are June 1 to Aug. 1 and Nov. 1 thru Jan. 10.

These two periods of time allow our editors to catch up on the large volume of submissions.

REMEMBER that we are always accepting your contest entries, year round, AND, we also have occasional theme issues that stay open to new subs during these hiatus times, as well as our annual DIME mystery anthology.

SLESAR'S TWIST 2004

FMAM's annual “Twist” contest, now called SLESAR'S TWIST, features prizes for the best twist ending short mystery stories as characterized by the Hitchcock style of stories written by Henry Slesar. Hitchcock called Henry the 'master of the ironic'. Keep that word in mind as you write. Entries must be submitted to FMAM by Oct 15, 2004. More info at Slesar's Twist.
