Who is She?

She's bold. She's sexy. She's mysterious. She's... YOU DECIDE!

Some months ago, FMAM adopted the "Mystery Dame" as our new mascot to emphasize the magazine's focus on mystery and crime fiction. But who is this woman? Where does she come from? What's her name? We left that to your creative imaginations and you have responded with some interesting answers.

Each month in this column we will feature a new submission that explores the mystery behind our mystery dame.

Interested in playing? Send your submissions to artwork@fmam.biz. Please remember to always put MYSTERY DAME in the subject of your email.

July 2005 - Her Name is Lillian...

Submitted by Joseph E. Hulme, Canton, MA

Dear Art Director:

I think I can answer some of your questions about the woman who arrived on your drawing pad.

Her name is Lillian Donovan. The people I work for are very interested in finding her. I've been searching for her for the past month. I had given up hope until yesterday when I stumbled across your site and saw Lily's picture posted.

After my boss's contacts came up empty, I knew she must have slipped into another world, but how, I thought? How did she do it? Now I know she came to you, and you drew her through. Such things are possible.

The reason she wears the hat over her eyes is because our world is mainly void of color. Your world is so vivid that if she viewed it her brain would implode. (For the record, it's my brim she sports.)

I have noted in your photo that Lily's lips have taken on color. She is starting to blend into your world. This is something that doesn't come naturally. It involves a process that I don't want to get into right now.

As you stated, she is very alluring, but beware of Lily. She is much more shrewd and dangerous than she lets on. I have a feeling that she doesn't remember her name or whereabouts - just about as much as she wouldn't know how to swing her hips or point that pistol to get what she wants.

Although you don't know me, dear Art Director, I have a favor to ask of you. Could you please draw me through into your world?

One last thing - Lillian is my wife of three years. We both workedfor the same people. I still love her. I am torn between helping her escape and bringing her in.

Thank you,

John Donovan.
